Will installing MTA corrupt any of the
original game files?
I cannot install MTA with the Setup.
It is giving me errors and not copying the files.
A: The short answer, no. We have designed MTA to be able just to "slide" into your current setup without any hassle. New files and directories will be created through the setup and everything should work fine.
Q: Do I need a lot of bandwidth to play MTA, or is a dial-up connection fine?
A: Since the development of this release, we have made sure that dial-up users can play fine. We have heard reports of dial-up users being about to play Servers with upwards of 16 - 20 players. Try it out for yourself and find out what is best for you! Running a Server is a completely different matter, though, so you are warned.
A: Due to the complexity of the Server and Client data, we have had to allow for mass amounts of data to be sent. Before increasing the number of players, please monitor your bandwidth usage and fine an amount which is acceptable for you. We do not accept bills for exceeding your bandwidth usage.
A: Use ASE (All Seeing Eye). MTA now has official support and it is extremely easy to setup and use. Navigate to http://www.udpsoft.com/eye and download the ASE.
A: Use the 'T' button to "open" a chat buffer and than press the 'Enter' key to send it. Due to the mass amounts of chat, you will not have much time to read the chat as it will fly by fairly quickly. Be patient.
TROUBLESHOOTING & BUGS
A: The only solution that has been submitted is that you should always allow the Setup to create the start menu items. It seems if you select for it to not create them, this error occurs and the files are not copied. If you wish to remove the start menu options, please do it manually for now.
A: There are many reasons why this could happen and we will try to outline the most common solutions below:
- We recommend having a clean install of GTA:VC so that it does not interfere with any other mods.
- You have not selected the proper
version of the game or your version is not supported. To select
- Make sure your language in the game is set to english (american.gxt). If you HAVE to have another language for whatever reason, please copy the corresponding *.gxt file out of the TEXT directory and into the MTA directory. Text may not display correctly, but the game will work.
- Try setting the MTA Client and GTA:VC to Win98 Compatibility Mode. This may cause more harm than good, but it is worth a shot.
- You have not installed the MTA files in the proper locations or with the read permissions. When the game starts, the MTA Client needs to modify certain things on run-time so that it may function properly. To fix this either re-install MTA with the Client Setup, or make sure the following directory structure is follow:
<Vice City Root Directory>/data/mta.scm
A: Since MTA is essentially "hacking" the GTA game to support Multiplayer, we have to read and write to the game's memory on the fly. In doing this, there is a large potential for crashing. We have already handled A LOT of the crashing issues, but as you can tell there is still a lot more to do.
As of right now, there is no "solution" for it. Just stay connected to the Server, start up the game and beginning playing where you left off. Your score will stay the same and everyone else will still see you connected. The only downside is that you have to start at the original spawn location. We will look into this further.
A: It seems that somehow, somewhere the code in the Client is bugging every once and awhile. This hardly affects anybody, but those that it does affect cannot normally play. There has been mention of a workaround in that you quickly hit the connect button and instantly minimize the Client window at the same time. We cannot officially support or deny this occurance, but we will look into fixing it. We have heard reports that changing the MTA Client exe to run in Win98 Compatible mode solves this problem. Another report coming is in that Windows XP themes can potential cause strange behaviour, so try switching back to the windows classic theme.
A: Again, this is a problem that hardly ever happens, but it has and is a large problem for those it affects. We will take the appropriate steps to fix this, but for now we can only hope that you can get it working some other way. We have heard reports that changing the MTA Client exe to run in Win98 Compatible mode solves this problem. Please try that. Another report coming is in that Windows XP themes can potential cause strange behaviour, so try switching back to the windows classic theme.
A: This is a problem that we are
having with the link between your connection (Client) and the
A: Start new game without disconnecting
in the Server, or shut both the MTA Client and game down and start
A: This is a server bug that happens every once and awhile. It seems that you have not received the Player JOIN packet. To fix this just disconnect and then reconnect. You should not even have to close down the game.
A: For some reason or another either
the Server between overloaded and "dropped" your packet
or your connection
A: Since the GTA games were not
setup for Multiplayer, this is not the easiest thing to perfect.
