General Questions and Answers

Q: I need a Server to play on, how can I find one?

A: Use ASE (All Seeing Eye). MTA now has official support and it is extremely easy to setup and use. Navigate to http://www.udpsoft.com/eye and download the ASE.

Q: Can i use MTA with mods such as car models, car skins, adjusted cars/weapons or things like that?

A: No, we've taken steps to prevent people using these mods. It is not fair against other players to play with adjusted cars or whatever mod you're using. Another thing is that most of the time it will cause crashes to other players and yourself. Please do not use mods with MTA. Use a clean installation of VC to properly play MTA.

Q: Can i use cheats with MTA?

A: No, you can't use cheats with MTA. The same as with mods, it is not fair against other players so we've disabled the cheats.

Q: Can i use trainers with MTA?

A: Please do not use trainers with MTA. We've taken steps to prevent people using trainers with MTA, because it simply is not fair to other players. It will also cause crashes to yourself and other people.

Q: I heard there are some commands which i can use in MTA?

A: Yes, there are command such as /kill and binding keys to several MTA functions. Please see the manual, the PDF version for MTA:VC 0.2 (which can be found in the download section), for more information about these commands and more features like binding keys.

Q: What key do i use for what?

A: Please see the manual, the PDF version of MTA:VC 0.2 (which can be found in the download section), for more information about the keys you can use in MTA.

Q: Where are the MTA-Stats, Admin control panel and the Server configuration tools?

A: They are in a seperate Server Expansion Pack which can be found in the download section when it's available.

Q: Do I need a lot of bandwidth to play MTA, or is a dial-up connection fine?

A: Since the development of this release, we have made sure that dial-up users can play fine. We have heard reports of dial-up users being about to play Servers with upwards of 16 - 20 players. Try it out for yourself and find out what is best for you! Running a Server is a completely different matter, though, so you are warned.

Q: The server is using a LOT of bandwidth, what is wrong?

A: Due to the complexity of the Server and Client data, we have had to allow for mass amounts of data to be sent. Before increasing the number of players, please monitor your bandwidth usage and fine an amount which is acceptable for you. We do not accept bills for exceeding your bandwidth usage. Mind that MTA:VC 0.2 servers use alot less than the previous MTA:VC 0.1 servers.

Q:  Does MTA modifies any of my VC files?

A: No, MTA doesn't modify any of your Vice City files. It will create it's own directory in your Vice City directory. No need to worry about MTA overwriting the original Vice City files.

Q: How do I chat In-Game?

A: Use the 'T' button to "open" a chat buffer and than press the 'Enter' key to send it. You will see all your chat messages in the easy MTA:VC 0.2 chatbox at the topleft corner. Mind that there are alot of other MTA function keys, such as the scoreboard, player names showing up, entering a car as passenger, screenshot saving, etc. All these keys can be found in the manual. Please download the PDF manual, which can be found in the download section.

Troubleshooting

Q: I am getting an Unhandled Exception crash when loading the game or when I click the "Start New Game" button (entering into a new game), what is wrong?

A: There are many reasons why this could happen and we will try to outline the most common solutions below:

- We recommend having a clean install of GTA:VC so that it does not interfere with any other mods. Having mods will result in NOT able to play MTA.

- You have not selected the proper version of the game or your version is not supported. To select a version, open the MTA Client and use the drop down box on the top right area of the screen. Select the game version according to what you have installed. If 1.0 still leads to a crash, try 1.1 ... and vice versa.

- Make sure your language in the game is set to english (american.gxt). If you HAVE to have another language for whatever reason, please copy the corresponding *.gxt file out of the TEXT directory and into the MTA directory. Text may not display correctly, but the game will work.

- You have not installed the MTA files in the proper locations or with the read permissions. When the game starts, the MTA Client needs to modify certain things on run-time so that it may function properly. To fix this either re-install MTA with the Client Setup, or make sure the following directory structure is follow:

<Vice City Root Directory>/data/mta.scm
<Vice City Root Directory>/MTA/american.gxt
<Vice City Root Directory>/mta_dll.dll

Q: The game has crashed with an Unhandled Exception while playing, what happened?

A: Since MTA is essentially "hacking" the GTA game to support Multiplayer, we have to read and write to the game's memory on the fly. In doing this, there is a large potential for crashing. We have already handled A LOT of the crashing issues, but as you can tell there is still a lot more to do.

Q: When i start up Vice City, i'm getting Single Player, huh?

A: Make sure you are connected to a MTA server and you pressed the Start Game button in the MTA client.

Q: I'm getting kicked because of "Suspected Trainer Usage", what happened?

A: This cheat-prevention doesn't fully works. Mind that MTA is still in Beta state and we're trying to eliminate as much cheating as possible. It could be that you're running trainers or other external VC-modifying programs such as speedmeters, etc. Please close these programs and try again.

Q: MTA is saying that my VC version is wrong, I've got an Australian VC version, is this wrong?

A: We've got several problems with the Australian version of Vice City. It could be that this isn't working with MTA.

Q: I'm getting the your "VC files are wrong" thing and i haven't even installed any mods?

A: You still have some modified files in your VC directory. If you've uninstalled any mods, that could be the problem. Even if there is 1 character changed in one of these files: handling.cfg, weapon.dat or mta.scm you'll not be able to connect. Reinstall VC and/or reinstall MTA.

Q: The Start Game button is not enabled! I can't click it! Why not?

A: You have to be connected to a server before you can click the Start Game button to start your VC game.

Q: It says i'm having a wrong version of VC or there's something else wrong with MTA and finding VC, am I doing something wrong?

A: Try the following: go to your Windows directory, for example c:\windows, and remove the MTA.INI file. Then try to start the MTA client again. It could also be that you're using a no-cd crack. Some of these don't work with MTA. We've not taken steps to prevent people using no-cd cracks.
